Man, however, has been created by God with an equal distribution of faculties and talents, which employed in the proper manner could endow him with the greatest of blessings that he is heir to and which is his right. Geographical divisions, raciai differences, skin color and other such differentia tions are not factors which determine the progress otherwise of different sets of people, since man is endowed equally by God with the potential powerfor both material and spiritual progress and evolution.
Yet these natural blessings, divided by God equitably and justly, have still been so placed that they serve man's needs according to his require' ments and according to how he is placed within certain geographical areas along with the natural advantageS they possess. Hence it is up to man to discover these blessings and exploit them to the fullest through continuous effort and endeavor. There is a famous couplet by the well-known lrani-poet, Saadi Shirazi which says: "The cloud, the moon, the sun and the sky are working, May you find a loaf and eat it but not negligently and heedlessly. "
The meaning of this is that nature has provided every means for man's comfort and convenienceand he, himself, should try to make use of them in a useful and heedful manner.
In view of what we have spoken of above of the presence of gifted talents given to man and of natural blessing in the world of creation, it is clear that the division of the world into East and West is nothing but artificial and the idea of a retarded and decadent 'Third World' has only been invented by the colonialists in order that it can be better exploited and in order to do this continuously in the future by keeping the peoples in these lands mentally shackled and culturally backward thus denying them any chance of progress.
By branding these nations with the name 'Third World', the colonialists only intend to perpetuate the idea of their backwardness and helplessness and keep them in a state of continued frustration, looking always to the superpower arid lacking the will to live independently. These countries and their peoples have been made to feel like addicts who are unable to continue without the benefit of the drug-like Western opiates which ends finally in enslaving and killing their very souls. Even for these people to think of quitting the addiction becomes impossible and only those who have been able to shake it off. realize in the end how they had become prisoners without cause.
Colonial culture, especially Western culture, has infiltrated and made deep inroads into the Third World and stuck firm roots there and this is particularly so among the intellectuals who have despaired of ever gaining superiority over Western and Eastern powers in different fields of industry, science and technology.
One of the most insidious and effective ways the West has found to control the minds of these intellectuals and addict them to the Western drug has been to accept them in universities and scientific and cultural centers and mould their thinking at these places. Ideas are usually implanted in them which inevitably take away their own self-confidence making them look less superior to their Western counterparts. They are shown that Western lifestyles are more superior and in various other ways made addicts to this way of thinking. In the end these intellectuals become alienated to their own "selves".
Of course there are higher dimensions and possibilities in Western scientific and spiritual culture which can be taken up to advantage. But the young Third World intellectual usually tends to be overwhelmed by their vastness in range and forgets of what he has of value in his own cultures. As the Devil seduces man in wily ways, so Western culture lures man, tempting him to think that the Third World man is weak and ineffective in comparison to the richness of Western culture, forgetful undiscerning of the fact that this is so only from a superficial point of view.
"The most threatening aspect of this lure of Western culture is its tendency to alienate the Third World man from his own culture and beliefs and to make him lose all self-confidence, These Third World intellectuals trained in the West and in Western universities and institutions have been implanted, as viruses are, with the idea of "dependence," through the idea of an overall superiority of Western culture and values. When they get back to their home countries, they make first-class executives, find themselves in key positions and have the appearance of being very advanced, but in fact they are the ambassadors and emissaries of Western ways of thinking in their own lands. The West finds they are the best of moles rendering the West services at no cost, to spread Western influence in these lands.
One of the most outstanding and valuable services rendered by the great founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini, has been to break this idol of 'Western dependence, and ,self-alienation' in the world, among oppressed nations. He would so often say, "Some people have come to believe that we cannot even breathe without being dependent on the West. But we have proved that these are only utterly baseless presumptions.,,
It is part of the training in Divine way of looking at things, to be able to cast away this shackle of 'dependency', to break this idol and come to believe in the 'self' that we are. We can only go higher in evolution spiritually and materially if we do this. Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) is known to Moslems as the "idol-breaker" because he was able to break all such idols both within and without and come to realize his own "self", thus becoming a theist and a pioneer hero of monotheism
The Holy Qoran emphasizes that man should first break down, overthrow and cast off tyranny in order to acquire true faith in Allah. The belief in an "other" should be broken in order to find one's true belief in "self" and in "Allah".
The revolutionary and nation-inspiring slogan which the Iranian-Moslem nation used even before the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in Iran goes as follows:
"You are my spirit Khomeini, you are the idol-breaker Khomeini ".
And the true meaning of this is reflected in all we have said above. It is therefore up to the Third World nations to take to belief in this slogan of 'idol-breaking' seriously and shatter once and for all this false division of the world into a vastly progressive West and a decadent East, for all time to come.
